Sacred Light
3pm, Sunday 2 May 2010
St Francis of Assisi Church, Paddington
Guest Musical Director - Elizabeth Scott
Choral composers have long been inspired by the joyous idea of eternal light, at once radiant and serene. For the contemporary American Morten Lauridsen it is a universal symbol of illumination and through his Lux Aeterna he hoped "to add a measure of joy, richness and transformation to the lives of both performers and listeners". Guest conductor Elizabeth Scott will lead us in a meditation on light with Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna and works by Monteverdi, Schütz and Eric Whitacre.
Note, this concert will be held at St Francis of Assisi Church, Paddington.

Sacred Love & Mystery
3pm, Sunday 29 August 2010
Saint Scholastica's Chapel, Glebe
Musical Director - Wayne Glass
For centuries, humankind has searched for its place in the universe, seeking guidance from spiritual and mystical sources. Music has often played an important role in this journey, from a perfunctory means of declamation to a magnificent illumination of sacred text. Through works by Palestrina, Britten, Salamone Rossi, the contemporary American composer Frank Ferko and others, we offer a glimpse at the ways composers have taken the ideas of sacred love, devotion and mystery and used music to enhance the individual journey.

Sacred Drama
3pm, Sunday 28 November 2010
Saint Scholastica's Chapel, Glebe
Musical Director - Wayne Glass
The wedding of music and dramatic themes is certainly not limited to the operatic stage. Sacred texts embody some of the most highly charged emotional content set to music. In this program, we focus on the dramatic sacred music of composers who bridged the gap between polyphony and monody as storytelling devices. Works by Bouzignac, Charpentier, Mazzocchi and Carissimi exhibit not only the manner in which these Baroque composers acknowledged the rising dominion of melody, but also the manner in which melody complements the tradition of polyphony to move the listener.
